If it is and you're a first year student, you'll be asked to take part in Shinerama-related activities as part of your Orientation week events. If you don’t see your school listed and you want to get involved, contact Tracey Adams at the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at (800) 378-2233, ext. 246, or by e-mail at tadams@cysticfibrosis.ca for a Shinerama information package.

For over 40 years, students from coast-to-coast have joined together to raise more than $18 million to help fight cystic fibrosis (CF).

Shinerama is Canada's largest post-secondary school fundraiser involving students at approximately 60 university and college campuses. On a school's designated Shine Day (normally during Orientation week), students take to the streets to shine shoes, wash store windows, polish cars - shining anything they can think of - in exchange for a donation to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Cystic fibrosis (CF), which affects the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common, fatal, genetic disease of young Canadians. When Shinerama began in 1964, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend kindergarten; today, thanks in part to Shinerama, half of all Canadians with CF may be expected to live into their late 30s, and even beyond - proving that by working together, students really can make a difference!
